Aquatic Villages Built on Abandoned Oil Rigs

Abandoned industrial structures can be beautifully revived and repurposed with a little imagination and, well, a lot of money. We first told you about the old cement plant that was successfully turned into a modern home and now we bring another spectacular project to your attention.

Ku Yee Kee and Hor Sue-Wern imagined this aquatic village on an abandoned oil rig. With layered rings of habitation units and common recreation areas in the center, this structure is designed to offer breathtaking ocean views for all its inhabitants. Circular laboratories for studying marine life make up the underwater levels.

If the project will one day become reality, the aquatic villages will use numerous renewable energy technologies. Solar electric panels, immense wind turbines, and tidal energy generators will provide each village with all the power it needs day and night.
