‘blow-up’ collection by fernando & humberto campana

‘blow-up’ collection designed by fernando and humbert campana for alessi.
somehow, while obviously a product of the computer age, it feels kind of retro. resounding with echoes of the ancient game ‘shanghai’ - 'blow up' is cleverly comprised of small ‘sticks’, in this case made of steel, appearing to be delicately stuck together.

the collection was created with the idea of assembling hypothetical off cuts of steel wire, and welding them together. through this technique they have created everything from bowls to umbrella holders, and even a small table.

when production was launched in 2004 they brought a breath of fresh air into the domestic landscape and registered as an immediate international success. a series that is collectable, stylish, and very unique.
the ‘blow up’ collection is constructed of solid stainless steel ( which is given a high gloss by means of an electrolytic bath ), and occasionally glass.
